We are pleased to announce the installation of a new self-service Wi-Fi rental "WiFiBOX" on the 1st floor of the Domestic Terminal Building at Yamaguchi Ube Airport, where you can easily rent a mobile Wi-Fi router with a contactless connection, and the service will begin on September 5, 2023 (Tuesday).
This is the first installation in the Chugoku area and Yamaguchi Prefecture, and will be available to travelers using Yamaguchi Ube Airport as well as those connecting at Haneda Airport for overseas travel. This brings the total number of WiFiBOXes installed to 37 locations at 31 facilities. We will continue to actively install WiFi boxes at airports, train stations, and commercial facilities in Japan to further improve customer convenience.

Background
Yamaguchi Ube Airport has seen a steady increase in the number of users since around April 2022, when the number of flights returned to the pre-Corona disaster level, and the overall number of users in FY2022 was approximately 690,000, a 191.4% increase compared to FY2021. The number of users has recovered to about 70% of what it was before the Corona disaster, and it is expected that moves to further expand use of the airport will intensify.
In addition, within an hour and a half drive from the airport, there are tourist attractions such as Motonosumi Shrine, which was selected as one of the "31 Most Beautiful Places in Japan" by CNN, an American news broadcaster, and Tsunoshima Island, which has become popular on SNS, and with the Yamaguchi urban area only about 40 minutes away by car, the airport is located in a location with easy access to major areas. In addition, there is a shuttle service to Shimonoseki. In addition, shuttle buses to Shimonoseki, cab rides to downtown Yamaguchi, and, for a limited time, direct service to tourist destinations such as Akiyoshido and Nagato Yumoto Onsen are available, making it highly convenient for sightseeing or returning home.
With this new airport, it will be possible to serve domestic business, sightseeing, and return travelers, as well as travelers who depart from Yamaguchi Ube Airport and connect to Haneda Airport for overseas destinations. In addition, we have decided to install WiFi boxes to meet the needs of many users, including inbound foreign tourists, which Yamaguchi Prefecture as a whole is promoting.
