Service to begin July 4 at Keio Plaza Hotel

We are pleased to announce that "WiFiBOX," an "unprecedented Wi-Fi rental service" that allows users to rent a mobile Wi-Fi router easily and contactlessly, will begin service in the 3rd floor lobby of the Keio Plaza Hotel (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo) on July 4, 2023 (Wednesday) at 10:00. This will be the first WiFiBOX to be installed in a hotel facility in Japan.

The service will be available in the lobby on the 3rd floor of the Keio Plaza Hotel, the first WiFi box to be installed in a hotel in Japan. This brings the total number of WiFiBOXes installed to 17 facilities and 22 locations. We will continue to expand the service to more facilities in the future to further improve customer convenience.

Background

Keio Plaza Hotel opened in 1971 as Japan's first skyscraper hotel, and this year marks 52 years since its opening. The Nishi-Shinjuku area where the hotel is located attracts business people and tourists not only from Japan but also from all over the world, and the Keio Plaza Hotel has long been used as the main venue for international conferences and conventions, welcoming many guests from more than 100 countries.
In the Shinjuku area, WiFi boxes have already been installed at two locations, Shinjuku Tourist Information Center and Shinjuku Milord, but the hours of use are limited, such as during the business hours of the facilities. The new WiFiBOX will be installed in the Keio Plaza Hotel, making it possible to pick up and return WiFiBOXes 24 hours a day in the Shinjuku area, and further improving convenience by providing a temporary communication environment for business travelers and tourists visiting Shinjuku, and increasing the number of pickup locations in the city for international travelers to pick up WiFiBOXes in advance of their arrival at the airport. The decision was made to install the new system in the belief that it will further improve convenience.
